Police Appeal For Witnessses to South Dunedin Robbery

1 min read

South Dunedin Police are seeking witnesses to the robbery of a woman in South Dunedin around lunch time today.

The incident occurred around 12.30pm after a woman withdrew a sum of cash out of a money machine outside the ANZ Bank on the corner of King Edward Street.

She was accosted a few minutes later while walking down an alleyway between Fox and Glasgow Streets.

The man grabbed the cash from her and ran off, taking a path down Glasgow Street towards Hillside Road.

He is described as a male Caucausian in his early 20s, of medium to slim build and about 6 feet tall. He was wearing a grey hoody with a black top over it with red writing on the back. He had light coloured trousers on.

"While we have talked with one witness we are keen to talk with anyone else who may have seen a man fitting this description possibly running in the area of Glasgow Street and Hillside Road around 12.30pm today," said Senior Sergeant Phil McDouall of South Dunedin Police.

While not harmed, the woman was shaken and upset by the incident he said. The man had run up behind her in the alley way and pushed her to the ground before taking the cash.

The incident was not thought to be linked to the robbery of a Westpac Bank in North Dunedin yesterday.

Anyone with information could contact Senior Sgt Phil McDouall, South Dunedin Police, on 03 455-1199
