Hamilton Police investigating a morning robbery of a City bank are appealing for witnesses and information on who was involved.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Greene, said a person with a partially disguised face entered the Frankton branch of the ANZ bank on Commerce St shortly before 10am.

"The person, believed to have been a male, has threatened a male teller and passed over a note demanding money.

"The offender left the bank with a small sum of money travelling on foot along Commerce St," said Mr Greene.

Though officers believe the offender to be male Police were keeping an open mind on the gender of the robber given the baggy clothing worn.

"At this stage we would describe the robber as a male Maori of chubby build between 175-180cm tall wearing black gloves, blue jeans, a dark jacket, scarf and large beanie."

Anyone with any information on the identity of the offender or who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Detective Constable Chris Wharton at the Hamilton Central Police Station on 07 858 6200.

Alternatively information can be left anonymously on the confidential crimeline, 0800 BUSTHEM (08002878436).
