A human jawbone was found on Waimairi Beach about 4km north of the Waimairi Surf Club about 2.30 pm Friday, by a member of the public.
DSS Virginia le Bas says the bone was lying fully exposed just a metre from the high tide line on the seaward side and appears to have been recently washed up. "This has been confirmed as human but further forensic work will be required to establish any other identification," she says.
"However it has already been confirmed from dental records this is not Tisha Lowry." There is nothing else police can say about this until forensic work is completed.
