Police Recruits join area inquiries for missing woman

1 min read

Twenty five Recruits from the Royal New Zealand Police College will spend the weekend helping about 20 Lower Hutt detectives with inquiries into the disappearance of missing Wellington woman Mrs Kaye Stewart.

Detective Senior Sergeant Soni Malaulau, Lower Hutt CIB, says Police want to speak with as many people as possible along the 20km stretch of road between Wainuiomata and the coast.

"We want to find anyone who saw Kaye in the area on Monday when she went to the Catchpool part of the park for a short walk. We want to make residents aware of her disappearance and ask them to check their properties. We also want to identify all vehicle traffic in the Coast Road area last Monday.

"Although it's a rural area, the Coast Road can be busy and we know there was a reasonable amount of traffic and people around.

"While the search and rescue phase for Kaye has been suspended pending any new information, it's important as part of our background inquiries to see if anyone spoke to or saw her in the area."

Detective Senior Sergeant Malaulau also appealed to others who may have driven along the Coast Road, Catchpool access road or in the general park area earlier this week to contact Lower Hutt CIB on telephone 04 560 2600.

"Fishermen, loggers, rural delivery people, contractors, residents and visitors who were in the Area on Monday are all urged to contact us."
