Canterbury Police staff stretched but coping well

1 min read

Canterbury Police District staff are coping well, on the fifth homicide inquiry this year, says District Commander Superintendent Sandra Manderson.

"Naturally we are re-prioritising work," she says. "Yes it does stretch resources, but the Canterbury Police District CIB has a very experienced management team and criminal investigation staff."

Superintendent Manderson says that they cannot staff `to the peaks', but reprioritise work when necessary. As well as the Criminal Investigation branch, staff from the General Duties and Traffic branches are all working together as a team on the homicides.

"At this stage we are not bringing in staff from outside the area or else where in the district however it is a possibility," she says. "The public can have confidence in the Canterbury District Police. We do not want them to have a fear of crime. We are still responding to our priority jobs as usual."
