Police have today discussed the Famodun case with both the Police Complaints Authority and the Auckland Coroner.
"Police recognise the need for absolute transparency in this case and I have referred the case to the Coroner for his consideration," the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Steve Long, said today.
The referral to the Coroner is in addition to the Police Complaints Authority investigation already under-way.
As Auckland Police have already explained, the family's views of these events does not square with the facts as currently known, Deputy Commissioner, Steve Long said today.
Auckland Police will this afternoon further brief the media on the preliminary findings of the Police investigation.
Mr Long said that in addition a senior investigator from out of the District will shortly be assigned the task of peer reviewing the Auckland investigation.
He said that the Police officer at the centre of the allegations was receiving welfare support. The officer remained on duty because the interim findings of the investigation did not warrant any other action.
The Deputy Commissioner urged anyone who may have witnessed the 12 November incident in the Countdown Supermarket car park at Lynfield and who not yet contacted Auckland City Police to do so.
