Enjoy the Axa New Zealand International Sevens but not at the expense of others - that's the message from Wellington Police on the eve of the festivities.
Inspector Paul Berry, Wellington Area Police Operations Manager, says police won't tolerate bad behaviour that interferes with the enjoyment of those at the Westpac Trust Stadium to see the rugby.
Police will have a visible presence at the event, and in the city on Friday and Saturday nights.
"People who throw objects, including bottles, or try to get run onto the park will be arrested. Those who drink too much could find themselves in time out or ejected from the Stadium," Inspector Berry says.
"It's going to be a long couple of days in the sun so drink plenty of water and make sure you eat food."
Police also remind people that the Wellington city public liquor ban applies outside the Stadium. "There's plenty of bins provided around the Stadium plaza so please drop your bottles in them when you leave."
Inspector Berry encourages people to use public transport, especially if they intend to drink alcohol. "We'll be out on the roads too so please use public transport or have someone sober to drive you home. Remember the drink-driving messages.
"Our message is to have some fun in the next few days, but please look after your mates and don't ruin life for those around you," he says. "If your behaviour gets out of hand, then be prepared to face the consequences."
