Police Commissioner Rob Robinson says he feels privileged to have been reappointed for a further term.
Mr Robinson said the last few years had been challenging and there were a number of matters that he would like to bring to a conclusion.
"I would like to see the processes around serious allegations relating to past Police conduct completed prior to the role passing to the next generation of leadership. Stewarding any changes that might be required following the current review of the 111 service is another high priority.
"The last few years have seen marked improvements in performance relating to crime and crash reduction. Successful outcomes were driven by an effective management team and professional work throughout the membership of the organisation.
"My deputies and I would like to consolidate the gains made and deliver further improvements. To that end we are focussing on three key themes of integrity, service delivery and performance management.
"Heading a police organisation in the post-911 era brings with it a complexity of competing demands. An increasingly important part of the job revolves around liaison with equivalents in other jurisdictions to help address trans-national crime. Meanwhile on the domestic front our stakeholders and the public demand ever increasing levels of service and accountability delivered in a spirit of partnership.
"Working with talented and dedicated colleagues in New Zealand Police and engaging with a diverse range of people in the wider community makes the job of Commissioner a satisfying but equally humbling experience," said Mr Robinson.
