North Shore Police have seized a large amount of stolen computer and electronic equipment as well as firearms after an operation targeting what Police describe as a well organised crime ring.
Sergeant Rod Fraser says, "An operation like this shows Police will respond with large scale resources to address crime in the community such as burglary." The outcome was achieved after gathering information from a wide number of sources including associates of those charged," says Sergeant Fraser.
The operation ran for six weeks focused on commercial and residential burglaries and included some covert phases. There was 40 staff involved with the execution of eleven search warrants. Nine people were arrested and face a wide variety of charges for burglary, unlawful taking, drugs and the possession of ammunition.
Inquiries are continuing and Police anticipate further arrests and more charges.
Sergeant Fraser says, "As a result of this operation Police have recovered a large amount of stolen property that was being stored at locations round Auckland and it is hoped that most of the property will be able to be returned to its rightful owners."
