A Leyland bus – coloured mainly purple with some grey paint. This vehicle was seen in two places, the ford near Makahu Station and Whittle Road around August 14th. It had a winch on the back for a trail bike. Male occupant appeared to have been hunting in the area. He is described as being in his late 50’s with grey hair and a moustache. Caucasian and of solid build.
At about 7.20 on the day of the shooting, a vehicle was travelling along Glengarry Road, towards the intersection with the Napier/Taupo Highway. This vehicle was almost involved in an accident with a black sports car about 100m from the intersection. This vehicle is described as a Green or Burgundy Jeep or Toyota Land Cruiser with a hard top. The front of the vehicle had a criss-cross grille and was very dusty. It had a single occupant.
At about 7.25 on the day of the shooting, a vehicle was seen parked on the corner of Glengarry Road and the Napier/Taupo Highway. This vehicle is described as a modern metallic blue ute with a canopy and tinted windows. It had chunky tyres and one male occupant.
Between 7.15 to 7.30 on the day of the shooting, a silver vehicle was seen travelling along Puketitiri Road near Seafield Road. No other information is available.
At about 7.30 a.m. on the day of the shooting, a silver vehicle was seen travelling along Swamp Road towards Hastings. This vehicle is described as a Silver Toyota Corona about a 1984 model. It was very dirty and dusty with 3 male Maori occupants.
Police would like to speak to the owners and passengers of the above vehicles as soon as possible so they can be eliminated from the enquiry. Police would also like to speak to any hunters, forestry workers and farm workers who were travelling too or from the Puketitiri Road area on or about the 27 August 2004.
