The driver of a car that crashed on Auckland's Northwestern motorway early yesterday morning, died in hospital overnight. His name was Chong Hyuk Son, aged 20.
Police are now trying to identify vehicles that were on the motorway at the time, that are visible in security camera footage. There is one vehicle as well as a taxi and a Courier Post van. All are possible witnesses to the crash.
Police say it appears that the vehicle that crashed lost control but a second vehicle that did not stop also lost control.
The crash occurred at about 3am between the Newton Rd and Bond St over bridges in the westbound lanes.
Acting Sergeant Stu Kearns of the Serious Crash Unit says, "A man has died as a result of this crash and we need to speak to as many people as possible to establish what happened."
"We did a detailed examination of the crash scene yesterday and that has provided us with evidence and information for the inquiry to progress. Speaking to the drivers of the vehicles in the footage would assist the inquiry," says Sgt Stu Kearns.
NEW LYNN FATALITY
Police can also release details of the deceased from last night's crash in New Lynn in which three people died.
They were: Shanal Jan, a four year old male, his brother nine year old Shamel Jan and Indu Chandra, a 53 year old female.
