A 21 year-old married father of one from the suburb of Three Kings is the latest victim of a fatal road crash in Auckland City.
Kavafau Vunileva was the front seat passenger in a car that Police believe was travelling at speed along Mt Smart Rd, Onehunga at 6.45 this morning, before it crashed into a power pole and a block wall.
Mr Vunileva died at the scene of the crash. The driver and a rear seat passenger – both believed to be in their early 20s - are in hospital, the latter in a serious condition.
Senior Sergeant Tony Miller of Auckland City Police said it was another avoidable tragedy to which speed and alcohol were suspected to have contributed.
The Police serious crash team is investigating and part of Station Rd was closed to traffic until about 1.30 this afternoon.
