The Christchurch City Council recently created a new 50km/h speed limit area in Gardiners Road by extending the 50km/h zone between Styx Mill Road and Johns Road. They also extended it further down Wilkinsons Road. This was largely due to the housing in this area.
The Christchurch Police have received complaints about the continuing speed though the built up 50km/h area.
Senior Sergeant Rick Jury says he would like to bring the new speed limit to the attention of the general public and in particular to those who regularly use this route so that they will slow down.
"Obviously, should the speeds continue,Police will run an operation to rigidly enforce the speed limit," he says. "However we’d prefer the cooperation of the public to resolve an ongoing issue."
