An elderly Wainuiomata man died this morning when his car hit a bank and rolled on State Highway 1 near Churton Park.
Senior Sergeant Doug Rowan, Johnsonville Police, says the crash happened at 8.50am this morning. Southbound traffic was diverted until police were able to clear the scene at 10.25am.
"We’re still investigating the cause of the crash but only one car was involved," Mr Rowan says. "We’ve spoken to some motorists who witnessed the crash but we’re keen to hear from others who may have seen what happened.
"People with information should contact the Johnsonville Police."
The name of the 72-year-old man will not be released until next of kin have been informed.
