The pathologist who completed the post mortem on the woman who died in Aotea Square in the early hours of this morning estimates her age at between 25 and 45.
Police have not been able to identify the woman who set herself alight at about 1.25am but have a description of her from a witness at the scene who assisted Police officers trying to dowse the fire engulfing her.
It’s believed the woman had a wrinkled face, was wearing old blue jeans, a blue or green coloured jumper, casual shoes like sandshoes, very short reddish to brown hair.
Officer in charge of the inquiry into her death and the rest of the overnight fires, Detective Senior Sergeant Jon Moss, said he was not seeking anyone else in connection with her death.
"If anyone is missing someone who fits this description, they should contact the inquiry team at Auckland Central Police Station," he said.
"In all, Police and the Fire Service dealt with 14 fires, including the woman’s death, and we now know that some of those fires had been smoldering for some time before they were detected.
"Many of the scenes have been examined by Fire, Police and other investigative staff today. We’ll continue with that work over the next few days.
"We’ve secured some of the surveillance footage from around the city but as yet we haven’t started looking through the bulk of it."
Anyone with information should contact Auckland Central Station on 302 6400 and ask to speak to the Operation Fire investigative team.
