White Ribbon Day
White Ribbon Day
White Ribbon Day is the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The wearing of a white ribbon has been adopted as an international symbol of men's opposition to violence by men against women.
NZ Police support White Ribbon Day and staff are wearing the white ribbon and participating in events up and down the country. We know that in the vast majority of Family Violence events Police attend, women are the primary victims. This fact is reflected in the deaths and injuries inflicted on the women and children of New Zealand. As police, we also are well aware that children and some men are also subjected to family violence.
This violence is not acceptable. New Zealand Police is committed to its responsibilities to ensure victim and child safety, offender accountability and to working with agencies in a collaborative way to address the issue.
