Road safety week reclaims streets for people
Road Safety Week New Zealand is dedicated to pedestrian safety.
Themed ‘Streets for People’ and coinciding with the second UN Global Road Safety Week, it calls on New Zealanders to help make our roads safer for everyone - particularly pedestrians and cyclists.
The intention is to remind everyone that streets are there to help communities, not endanger and take lives. It is the right of everyone, including children, the elderly and the disabled, to be able to get around their communities on foot and bicycles without risk.
Activities and events are happening throughout the country to help raise awareness and urge drivers to walk or cycle whenever they can and to think about the needs of pedestrians and cyclists too.
