Public support plays hand in successful cannabis haul
Information from the public, both over the counter and through anonymous sources such as Crimestoppers, has helped bring about successful results for this year's national cannabis eradication programme.
The annual crackdown on illegal cannabis growing, saw staff from Police districts around the country swing into action with the support of the Royal NZ Air Force.
More than 10,000 plants were recovered in the Central District alone, nearly 4,000 up on last year.
In Eastern District, 14,000 plants were recovered between the Central Hawke's Bay and the East Cape, 430 of which were found growing in a Gisborne orchard.
Anyone with information about cannabis or other drug activity should contact their nearest police station. Information can also be left anonymously on Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
