Police remember officers killed in line of duty
Police districts across New Zealand paid tribute to those who have died in the line of duty at annual Remembrance Day services.
Police Minister Hon Anne Tolley, Commissioner Peter Marshall and Deputy Commissioners Viv Rickard and Mike Bush attended the national service at the Royal New Zealand Police College on Friday.
More than 500 current and retired Police staff, families and members of the public attended the event.
A total of 102 serving and former staff members were remembered at this year’s service, as well as slain officers from Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Two women described as ‘trailblazers’, lighting the way for women in New Zealand Police, were among former staff remembered.
Elizabeth Parker BEM was New Zealand Police's first female commissioned officer and one of the first three Māori women to appear in police uniform. Jean Dougall was the second female commissioned officer, and received an historic promotion in 1977 to detective inspector.
