Graduates step out on new path
Seventy four new constables have graduated from The Royal New Zealand Police College in Wing 272. A ceremony took place at Te Rauparaha Arena, 17 Parumoana St, Porirua, on Thursday 14 June and was attended by the Honourable Anne Tolley, Minister of Police, and Police Commissioner Peter Marshall.
Several graduates have family members already serving in the police, like Nick Owen who becomes the sixth member of his family to join the police.
Prize winners included Constable Brent Menzies who won the Minister's Prize for First in Wing. The Commissioner’s Prize for Second in Wing was awarded to Constable Alayne Dyke and the Patron’s Prize for Third in Wing went to Constable John McCarthny.
The Wing's Patron is Julie Christie, ONZM, the founder and CEO of Eyeworks New Zealand and Australia.
Julie is the recipient of the 2004 Women in Film and Television Award for International Achievement, the 2006 SPADA Independent Producer of the Year, the 2008 Veuve Clicquot Businesswoman of The Year (which celebrates female entrepreneurship), and is an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) for services to film and television.
