Fishing for fun with Blue Light
It was Easter gurnard rather than bunnies when hundreds of people lined the waterfront at Queen’s Wharf, Wellington, for the Trade Zone/Blue Light fishing day.
More than 600 people attended – a conservative estimate as the people counter became overwhelmed by the numbers. Registrations included 270 children aged from zero to 13-plus.
The event was hosted by fishing legend Graeme Sinclair, from TV’s Gone Fishin', patron of Blue Light New Zealand.
“Wellington put on a great day,” says Blue Light Wellington Chairperson Constable Brett Cronin. “After a week of dodgy weather the sun finally came out and light southerlies were a welcome relief from 100km/h northerlies the day before!
“It was great to see families and their kids out together fishing even during the long Easter weekend... which is what Blue Light is all about.”
Gurnard, blue cod and small snapper were caught along the wharf, even by young first-time fishers. “A lot of families want to see this as an annual event for Wellington,” says Brett.
He thanked Graeme Sinclair and Sandee for giving up their time over Easter, along with the Blue light crew, The Rock Church, Wellington Police Maritime Unit, the crew of the Mobile Police Base, city council, Wellington Mobility Vehicle Rental and other Police staff.
The event was sponsored by Trade Zone and spot prizes were donated by The Warehouse Johnsonville, Steve’s Fishing shop and Barton Marine
“Check out the Blue Light Wellington Facebook page for more photos... and like us!” says Brett.
