Cash sniffing dogs show their skills
New Zealand Police drug detector dogs now have another reason to follow their nose. This week, seven police dogs, and five customs dogs have been trained to sniff out large amounts of cash with the aim of targeting proceeds of crime.
The dogs are taught to identify wads of $10,000 or more, including the New Zealand, Australian and American dollar. They are able to recognise and respond to the large amount of currency after only two days of intensive training.
Sergeant Craig Baron and Evo were part of the training process this week. You can watch them in action below.
The canines will be operational in the Auckland, Bay of Plenty, Eastern, Wellington, Canterbury and Southern districts from next week.
