Yes. You can help police track stolen goods by providing serial numbers. These can be difficult to identify - ask the retailer which number on electronic goods is unique and note it separately. Jewellery such as diamond rings can be laser inscribed with a unique number which is invisible to the human eye - ask a jeweller.
