Wellington Night-time Economy (NTE) Alcohol Behaviours report

This research report presents results from a study carried out by New Zealand Police, Wellington City Council and Health New Zealand |Te Whatu Ora into intoxication levels and drinking behaviours of people out at night in Courtenay Place over a three-week period in September-October 2022.

Over two thousand people entering or exiting Courtenay Place were surveyed and had their breath alcohol levels measured. The findings from the report will be used to inform the targeting of alcohol harm reduction strategies.

This study was designed to replicate the study commissioned by the Health Promotion Agency of the Hamilton NTE and carried out by a research team led by Prof. Michael Cameron, University of Waikato (report published in Jan 2020). The Wellington NTE research report was prepared by the Evidence Based Policing Centre, in collaboration with partner agencies.
