Responding to audit findings from the 2019 firearms buy-back and amnesty
The Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) has sought an update from Police on work to address its performance audit of the 2019 firearms buy-back and amnesty scheme. OAG’s audit, published in May 2020, concluded that Police had managed the scheme well; making three recommendations for Police to action, and identifying two further improvement opportunities. A five-page progress report and supporting one-page summary have been prepared, outlining steps taken by Police related to the audit recommendations and improvement opportunities, as well as the impact those actions have had on the firearms community and the safety of New Zealand. Copies of both documents are available here.
