Official Information Act proactive release publicly released in May 2018
Police proactively publishes responses to a selected number of the many thousands of Official Information Act requests it receives each year. This proactive publication occurs after requesters have received their response, and with the requesters’ identifying details (such as names and addresses) removed before publication. The Official Information Act responses which are proactively published in this way will typically involve matters of public interest. This initiative is an extension of Police’s past practice of making certain information sought under the Official Information Act more widely available, but without releasing the actual responses to the original requester/s (for example, see https://www.police.govt.nz/news/release/police-release-full-footage-robot-which-entered-pike-river-mine-15-march-2011).
Note: After a complaint, Police has decided to release the video footage which was initially withheld under section 9(2)(c) of the OIA. As with the still images from the video referenced in Police’s response letter, a copy of the four minute video has therefore been sent to the requestor.
