The New Zealand Police has sworn and non-sworn staff members working in peace-support operations and capacity development programmes throughout the world to increase stability, security and policing capability.

Currently NZ Police are deployed in the following countries:

Previous deployments; Cyprus, Antarctica, Namibia, Timor-Leste, Phuket Thailand.

The role of New Zealand Police offshore include:

  • natural-disaster responses
  • investigative support
  • post-conflict capacity building
  • advisory, mentoring and broader capability development roles
  • consular support

All sworn staff assigned to overseas operations undergo training on language, culture, marine safety, first aid, firearms and navigation before being deployed. Each operation requires a wide spectrum of skills and abilities, so general duties, specialist and investigative police officers are deployed on each operation.

As well as taking part in peace-support operations, the New Zealand Police are also involved in a number of joint programmes and projects with police services operating in the Pacific and Asia. Examples include:
