Information for customers dealing with secondhand dealers online

Details you must supply to the secondhand dealer

As a customer selling articles to a secondhand dealer online you will need to supply your:

  • full name;
  • contact address; and
  • contact phone number, if any;

to the secondhand dealer before he or she can purchase the item from you.

However, obviously, you will not have to provide photographic identification in these circumstances.

Your identity will be able to be subsequently verified, however, through cross-referencing the "dealers record" with the "Internet auction provider record".

Details that will be held by your Internet auction provider

The Act requires Internet auction providers to record:

  • the full name;
  • date of birth;
  • contact telephone number; and
  • email address;

of every person offering secondhand articles or scrap metal for sale on their website.

The regulations, when published, may also require Internet auction providers to record additional matters. If this occurs, this information will be added to this site for your information.
