Stay safe and make Halloween a treat [video]
The spookiest night of the year doesn’t have to be the scariest for trick-or-treating youngsters or their neighbours.
Police are encouraging parents, caregivers and children to celebrate Halloween safely by following some simple safety tips.
These include always going trick-or-treating with an adult, staying in areas that are well lit, only visiting houses where you know the residents and being careful not to scare elderly people.
You’ll find plenty of advice in our Halloween safety advice video, in which a group of Wellington schoolchildren share their easy-to-follow ideas for a safe and fun Halloween.
Tips in the Halloween video include:
- always going trick or treating with an adult
- staying in areas that are well lit
- only visiting houses where you know the residents
- and being careful not to scare elderly people.
Householders can download and print Trick or Treater posters from the Police website to put up on a window or front door - either ‘Trick or Treaters Welcome’ or ‘No Trick or Treaters Please’.
And remember – you don’t have to respond to knocks on the door on Halloween. If there are any problems or incidents outside your house and you are concerned you can ring police for advice or assistance.
