Waitematā Police District

District Commander, Bill Searle

District Commander
Superintendent Bill Searle

Hello, Kia Ora, Talofa Lava, Malo Lelei, Fakalofa lahi atu, Kia Orana, Bula Vinaka, Nihao. As the District Commander, I'm pleased to welcome you to the Waitematā Police District and to our website.

This is one of the largest Police Districts in New Zealand and covers the diverse area from North of the Harbour Bridge across the North Shore of Auckland, up to Mangawhai, across to Helensville and Waitakere and through to New Lynn. It also encompasses the entire 106 kilometre stretch of motorway from the Bombay Hills north to Orewa. Please feel free to view the map of the district.

We have an establishment of over 888 staff that provide Police services to in excess of 440,000 people, a population that is rapidly increasing and is predicted to reach 500,000 in the next few years. We are a diverse district that is becoming increasingly more diverse with both rural and urban communities and a broad mix of cultures.

Our Policing Goals

This district has a strong record of reducing and resolving crime. We will continue to focus on preventing crime, working with communities and key stakeholders to put in place effective interventions that suit the local environment. Through these actions we will provide reassurance that the District is still one of the safest communities within which to work and live.

In particular we will:

  • Work with local communities to identify and address local community problems.
  • Develop new and strengthen existing partnerships with government, non-government and community groups.
  • Work in a coordinated way across all relevant work groups within the Waitematä Police.
  • Take an intelligence-driven approach to policing and where possible, deploy resources to the greatest risk areas.
  • Continue to improve our processes and systems to maximise efficiency.
  • Maintain a quality service focus.
  • The District will work in a collaborative way with the Auckland City and Counties Manukau Districts and the Auckland Metro Crime Services Group (AMCOS). It will be an active and constructive contributor to the Auckland Board of Management (BOM) and will maintain a national policing perspective.

The overarching philosophy will be to work in a collaborative way both internally and externally with a continuous improvement and service focus.
