Tasman Police DistrictHello, Kia Ora. Welcome to the Tasman Police
The Tasman Police District covers 70,000 kilometres of territory, encompassing the northern and most of the western portion of New Zealand's South Island. The West Coast alone spans the distance between Wellington and Auckland . If you were to drive from one end of the Tasman District to the other, from Haast on the West Coast to Kaikoura in the east, it would take 12 hours. From the glaciers of South Westland to the isolated bays of the Marlborough Sounds, the district is a mecca for tourists from all over the world. Here's a map of the district. There are 22 police stations in the Tasman District. Because of the geographical isolation, six are sole-charge - or one-person - stations. Our district phonebook provides phone, fax and address details for each station. Sole-charge officers can be responsible for a large area. The Murchison officer's patch, for example, extends in a 100km radius from the town, reaching to the Hope Saddle in the north, Springs Junction in the south and across to Inangahua in the west. We have 302 sworn police officers and 57 civilian or nonsworn staff working in our district. Organisationally, our district has its headquarters in Nelson, and has three distinct Areas each headed by an Inspector as its commander. The areas are Nelson Bays, West Coast, and Marlborough.
